a group of 4th grade students and an adult volunteer pose in a gym full of Community Christmas donations

This fall, a group of compassionate 4th-grade students at Boyne City Public Schools took the initiative to support their fellow students and families in need by leading the annual Community Christmas drive. Guided by their dedicated 4th-grade teacher, Mrs. Spate, the students,  Connor Smith, Carter Dobbins, Joshua Williams, Dayne Matelski, RyLeigh Mellios, Harrison Wormell and Cord Reinhardt, organized, communicated with staff and students, and facilitated the transfer of donations to the downtown location.

Notably, Connor Smith emerged as a standout leader, showcasing his significant contribution to the project. To boost the spirit of giving, the school organized a friendly competition, with Mrs. Longcore's 3rd-grade class claiming victory for the highest donations, both at the class and grade levels. The contagious enthusiasm among students made the initiative a fun and engaging experience.

High school students generously volunteered to assist 4th graders in loading buses full of donations, emphasizing the school community's commitment to unity and support. The winning class was Mrs. Longcore's 3rd grade with 442 items brought in. The winning grade was 3rd grade with 780 items brought in. And the entire school total was a whopping 2,668 items brought in. The elementary school extends heartfelt thanks to students and their families for their overwhelming generosity, reinforcing the strong and caring community spirit at Boyne City Public Schools. This year's Community Christmas drive is a testament to the enduring impact of compassion and kindness in our school district.
