A Message from the Superintendent - Patrick Little

Whether you are a lifelong resident of the Boyne community or new to the area, I want to thank you for choosing to support Boyne City Public Schools (BCPS) and our students!

BCPS is an innovative educational leader in northern Michigan. In every aspect, this school district sets and consistently meets high expectations for a great education while partnering with many key supporters in our community. Students at BCPS find excellent opportunities for growth in academics, the arts, and athletics.

We are thankful for the community's continuous support, which was demonstrated in the passing of the Bond millage vote in May of 2020, the Enhancement Millage in 2017, and the 2016 Bond issue.  Beyond this, the Boyne City Booster Foundation consistently finds resources in our community to support all students with the generous support of businesses and individuals.

There are so many points of pride, that it is challenging to choose which to highlight because it depends on the student’s age and interest.  From our growing pre-school to our award-winning high school Robotics team, BCPS strives to provide a variety of learning opportunities for each family to choose from each year.

In BCPS there is always room for more voices to be heard. If you have input, support, or simply need questions answered, we are here to help.

At the May 5, 2016, Special meeting of the Board of Education, Patrick Little was offered an employment contract for the Superintendent of Boyne City Public Schools.

Pat’s wife is Nikki Little (Erber) graduated from Boyne City Public Schools and her parents are residents of Boyne City. Pat and Nikki have five (5) children; three high school graduates and two current Ramblers at Boyne City High School.

Patrick started off his career in 1995 as a teacher and coach at Harper Creek High School and Charlotte High School, teaching a variety of social studies and English courses while coaching football and baseball. In the fall of 1998, he moved to Dexter High School teaching American Studies, Psychology, Government, and English while coaching varsity football. In the fall of 2001, Pat moved to the Assistant Principal’s role.

In 2004 Pat then moved to Chelsea, Michigan where he served as an Assistant Principal at the high school for two and a half years and as the principal at Beach Middle school.

East Jackson Community Schools (EJCS) became Pat’s next destination.  In February of 2012, he transitioned to be the Secondary School Principal with the intent of training for one year to be the next superintendent. In May of 2013, Pat was hired as Superintendent and stayed in that position for three years. EJCS benefited from Pat’s leadership, especially the addition of an alternative school, implementing a 1:1 technology program for students, the passage of a major bond issue which renovated and reorganized the district’s grade alignments, and the overall stabilization of the district.

Pat is now fully immersed in the Boyne City Public Schools and continues to focus on creating many different opportunities for student learning. The highlight of Pat’s time here (among many great moments) was the implementation of the Early Learners expansion.  Preschool education is a passion for Pat and the passage of the Enhancement Millage in November of 2017 gave BCPS the opportunity to invest heavily in our youngest Ramblers.

Pat is always available by phone or email for appointments or general questions. You can also catch him at many after-school and community events.
