About Us
District Overview:
Boyne City Public Schools (BCPS) proudly serves students from age 3 to young adulthood. Our schools thrive on a high level of community and parent support which is an integral part of our success. Rambler students are offered a wide range of academic, artistic, and athletic opportunities to help them learn and grow. The pride students, parents, staff, and community members take in Boyne City Schools is a product of a tradition of excellence in education. Beyond winning awards and accolades, we believe the individual success stories of our graduates have built a foundation for current students to become strong contributors to our society as they become adults.
All schools and programs have some common elements to ensure success. We are a student-first school district. Systems are in place to support student needs and to put plans in place to assist social/emotional and academic needs of all ages. BCPS is proud of our highly qualified administrative leadership team, our teachers, and support staff who strive to make BCPS a welcoming and productive learning environment.
BCPS, for well over a decade, has been a state-wide leader in the integration of technology for twenty-first-century learning. Student 1:1 devices are continually updated for all grade levels. In the classrooms, state-of-the-art visual and audio equipment enhances teaching and learning.
Finally, we pride ourselves on updated, and well-maintained facilities. Parents should expect health and safety needs to always be met at BCPS.
No matter a student’s learning level or social/emotional needs, BCPS thrives on offering many options to fit each student.
BOYNE CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Early Learners Preschool (ages 3 & 4)
For the past two decades, the Early Learners Program has helped prepare our youngest students for success in kindergarten and beyond. In 2017, the district made a major expansion of the program and now serves over 100 preschoolers per year. With this expansion, accelerated academic standards, and greater learning opportunities grew the program into what it is today.
We provide a tuition-free education program for all 4-year-olds Monday through Thursday during the academic portion of the day. Early Learners also has a tuition-based program available for 3-year-olds. Summer programming is quite popular for families that need child care assistance during the summer while providing a safe and educational environment. All teachers are state certified with expertise in Early Childhood Development. Our director oversees the entire program and has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Development along with many years of classroom experience. All teachers utilize a curriculum designed by the Michigan Department of Education.

Boyne City Elementary School:
Boyne City Elementary School (BCES) serves students from Kindergarten through 4th grade. Students enjoy a State approved curriculum which is supplemented by the 1:1 technology (IPADS) issued to each student. Technology integration is a consistent part of learning. It helps the teachers to individualize learning for students of all abilities. BCES staff focus on all subject areas, especially the fundamentals such as reading and math. Each semester student growth is assessed using classroom observations and assessments, along with NWEA MAP assessments.
Beyond core subjects, students have the following electives each week: Spanish, Art, Physical Education, and Music. These elective classes help expose students to a variety of topics and skills that students enjoy. Field trips are a great way for our young Ramblers to experience the world and make connections to the classroom.

Boyne City Middle School
Boyne City Middle School (BCMS) serves students grades 5-8. At the middle school staff helps guide students' academic growth alongside their transition to the teen years. Beginning in 6th grade, an advanced math track begins for students who need a faster and more in-depth pace. Students in need of more support in all subjects can utilize an elective hour to get direct, additional support from one of their teachers. Other students use this time (called FLEX) to have extensions of the curriculum, particularly in the STEM field (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math). Other electives include Woodshop, Art, Spanish, Physical Education, Music, Innovations, Robotics, Health, and Career Explorations.
Student mentoring is an important part of the transition of new 5th grade students to middle school. W.E.B. stands for Where Everyone Belongs and it provides training for 8th-grade students to act as mentors to 5th-grade students. In August, the WEB Leaders put on an orientation program that helps new students build confidence and to understand what it means to be a Rambler at the middle school. WEB Leaders mentor, meet with and support 5th-grade students at school throughout the year to build positive relationships and role model positive problem-solving skills.
Middle school is the time where students start playing school-sponsored sports. All middle school students can participate in track, cross-country, and wrestling. 7th and 8th-grade students play school-sponsored football, basketball, and volleyball. Community teams are available for 5th and 6th-grade students in these sports. The spring musical is a hit each year at BCMS, allowing students to explore the area of performing arts. There are also a variety of other clubs for students to participate in at BCMS.

Our district offers a 5-year program that will result in an Associate's Degree from Northern Central Michigan College. There is also a wide range of college courses available to help students gain college credits. BCHS provides college guidance counselors to assist students in exploring their career paths and steer them towards success. We believe each student has a unique path and that could include the trades, therefore we make sure to look at all aspects and options that are available in the ever-changing world.
BCHS offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to learn and grow beyond the classroom. Student pride in the extracurricular teams and clubs is evident by the success enjoyed each year. Virtual Learning Option
All students can fully enroll in this online offering through BCPS. Students K-8 grades are supported by a BCPS teacher assigned solely to the success of these online learners. The staff member mentors and coaches kids as they use the Lincoln Learning platform to master grade-level skills associated with State standards. Each student enrolled in the program is issued an IPAD or Chromebook to do the coursework.
Students in grades 9-12 can also have a fully virtual experience. For each core and elective course, a teacher is assigned to facilitate online learning and provide feedback. Students in the Virtual Learning Option need to be independent learners with strong reading skills and be self-motivated to be successful.
